It is useful for dealing with new age morons.
That reminds me of a time (I'm pretty sure you were in the room at the time) when Joy Mills said that, when she thought of some of the things that she said 50 years ago, she was embarrassed. John Algeo replied that if she was not embarrassed by some of the things she said 50 years previously, then she should REALLY be embarrassed, because it would have meant that she had failed to learn anything new in 50 years. A couple of years later I asked him if I could use the line. His reply was that he didn't even remember saying it, but it was the kind of thing that he would have liked to have said, and certainly I could use it.
