Cass, Spot on again as someone who has to deal with the effects of "over-spending credit card misuse" and debt problems for thousands of people who are pressurized into getting themselves into debt because"the kids NEED TO HAVE" the current "X-box" Computer game, gadget, or whatever is the current fad, "oh, other kids are getting this so I want one as well to keep up with them and look cool." Yes it is totally materialistic in the West, TV ads are geared to instil the desire to "have",peer group pressure has a lot to do with it "must have this type of clothing, branded, designer label:of course,Some of the people that I have to deal with are so gullible into falling into the Ad-man's hype, it is difficult to wean them out of this decreasing spiral. I have seen some harrowing cases over the years, in what is supposed to be an affluent society. Perhaps if Christmas was like the Olympic games, once every 4 years it would be better. it would give Some a fighting chance. The religious side of Yuletide has diminished, almost to a point of irrelevance these days. The big conglomerates now control the desires and needs of people. Santa Claus, an advert for COCA COLA since the 1930's,Christmas cards, good way of boosting profits for the post office.I am sure that you can name a few other multi nationals of similar persuasions.
HO,HO, flamingHO.

Look under Santa's red hat and you will find out!!! On a serious note, what does Santa represent - gross materialism.
