SECRECY IS NO FALSEHOOD

Dear Jerry,

I hope you are not suggesting that secrecy equals lying.

This is an absolutely primary truth -- secrecy has nothing to do with frauds, or lying.

A few examples:

1) Jesus explained the esoteric meaning of his teachings to disciples only, not to the people at large. He was not lying. He was protecting truth from unprepared minds and hearts.

2) Pytahoras, the Masonry, Rosicrucian Societies, Esoteric Schools, the T.S. in its first years, every sage in the world always had to protect truth from unprepared minds. This has nothing to do with fraud, falsehood, etc.

Agree?

Therefore when you say: " As I read it, Paul is basically saying that by concealing the truth, HPB
is, in one interpretation of the word, 'lying'. " ---- Paul's distortion of the facts gets all too evident.

A Master said in a Letter, and I will quote the idea, not the words: " Truth is like a too strong tonic, which can kill or cure". Therefore, the Master explained, it has to be given out gradually.

Transmitting truth gradually and preserving it from childish (proud, selfish) minds is not lying -- at all.

It is being wise and compassionate.

Carlos.

Dear Vladimir,

Yes, I remember this post. He does indeed use the word "lying."

Once again, quotes have to be read in context. Earlier in the same
posting, Paul sets that context of your quote below by quoting HPB's
own statement that she is not always truthful:

> Here's a quote from 1889 that should give some context on HPB's
> earlier stories about her travels and contacts: "to even my best
> friends I have never given but fragmentary and superficial accounts of

As I read it, Paul is basically saying that by concealing the truth, HPB
is, in one interpretation of the word, "lying." Even as HPB warns
above: "ask no questions and you will receive no lies."

So when (as Paul documents elsewhere) HPB gives four contradictory
accounts of Morya, one can say she is concealing the truth, purposely
misleading the inquirer away from the truth of the matter, giving
disinformation, or you can say that she is lying. Phrase it anyway you
like, but Paul is backing up his point by quoting HPB herself.

Best,
Jerry
