TAMPERING WITH BOOKS

Jul 28, 2006 12:06 PM
by carlosaveline

What was in discussion n the 1966 Adyar Conference was the unconfessed "updating" of books by CWL and Annie Besant as their grave mistakes got obvious.

Tehre is nothing necessarily wrong with making an open and public abridgementof a book.

There is at least one famous abridgement of Shakespeare's works, for children.

Changing originals in an unconfessed way, as proposed by USA theosophists, was questioned by Radha Burnier, N. Sri Ram and several others.

Regards, Carlos.

Assunto:Theos-World Other Examples of Silent Editing

> For comparison purposes, interested students
> might want to look at the following works.
> All of them are products of "silent editing".
>
> [1] Michael Gomes' abridged edition of ISIS UNVEILED
>
> [2] Christmas Humphreys & Elizabeth Preston's
> abridged edition of THE SECRET DOCTRINE
>
> [3] Katharine Hillard's Abridgment of THE SECRET DOCTRINE.

> One more example:

> Theosophy Magazine has done over the years many collations
