THE 1900 LETTER AND A LONG WINTER

Friends,

The complete version of the 1900 letter, see further below, has not been studied or discussed enough. Far from it, I guess.

It immediataly corrected one grave mistake -- the fancies about an immediate come back of HPB in those early days as the little daughter of Mr. Chakravarti.

But the letter also has decisive long term effects as it not only does anticipate most of the mistakes made from 1900 and up to 2006-2009-- it also indicates the tools and instruments for correcting those mistakes, which, by the way, are NOT exclusive of this or that theosophical group or institution.

I believe that the discussion whether the 1900 letter is authentic or not, as the ability to identify the practical lessons the movement may take from it, has the utmost importance for us in these first decades of 21st century.

In my perception, we should be able to have an objective discussion about it -- as about many other issues.

Perhaps we will develop a mutual permission to put facts above "political' or institutional conveniences, and to accept facts and truth regardless of the fact that they appear to benefit one side or the other, from the viewpoint of political-power.

That would be a higher level of truce in Theos-talk. It would be a ceasefire of destructiveness -- but not a ceasefire of the search for truth. Not a ceasefire in the search for inner lessons.

For fire can be used to get more light on the path.

The full text of the 1900 letter may be the solemn, sad and last "farewell" in a cycle. I am sure it has difficult lessons to be learned by all quarters of the movement. This is an idea I would like to discuss here.

In these first 110 years since the close of the first 5000 years of the Kali Yuga in 1897, there may be a collective denial of this letter's importance. But this 1900 text gives central hints for the work during that time which we could call "the long winter", that is, the long "post-outward-contacts" period.

Some of the lessons given through HPB do have, I guess, several layers of meaning, and are programmed or calculated to be "discovered" and "re-discovered" in different centuries and moments -- as the movement evolves.

Best regards -- and may we have a nice truce --, Carlos.
