It is a difficult job at times but somebody has to do it.
 
When I was young and foolish I sojourned for a time among Christians (ok,  
the girls were cute and they weren't on drugs!).  And being good Christians  
they would study their bibles.  Studying the Bible for them meant sitting  around 
in a circle, reading a verse and then someone would say, "And what  is Jesus 
telling us?"  Of course they learned nothing but how to parrot  each other.
 
At times, it seems that my Theosophical brethren get stuck in a rut of  
trying to outdo each other in their ability to quote scripture without  
understanding and hold contests to find out who can pretend to know Sanskrit  better than 
all others.  There is much comment about doctrines of eye and  heart without 
recognizing that both have strengths and BOTH have  weaknesses.  The ideas 
were not meant as clubs to beat thought into  submission to emotion and beat 
people into meekly accepting the words from on  high.
 
For a system supposedly without dogma there is a lot of barking going  on.
