Comments on Some of Jake's Points about KH Letter

Jake,

Thanks for your comments at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/theos-talk/message/36217

I wrote:

"So WHO was the someone (mentioned by Jake) to transmit this [KH
Concentration] letter if not HPB or Judge???"

and, Jake, you replied:

"Well, I think YOU KNOW [caps added] that it was UNDOUBTEDLY [caps
added] Julia ver Planck ('Keightly' AFTER 1891) - but YOU WANT [caps
added] someone else to say it."

Jake, I'm glad you shared your thinking about what I know and what I
want! ..... :)

Undoubtedly??? Hmmm.

At this point in time, I am inclined to believe it was NOT Julia
who "transmitted" this KH letter. That in fact, it was either Judge
or HPB. Certain things even lead me to speculate that it was
transmitted thru HPB. But I'm always on the lookout for more
definite evidence/facts/documents that will tip the scale and
confirm how the letter/mss was actually transmitted.

Again, Jake, you write:

"Actually, you LIKE the concentration method described - so you
think it is genuine. I DISLIKE it and think it is inconsistent - so
I think it is phoney."

Those are all your caps!!!!

I ... LIKE??? Are you sure???

But, yes, I do get the impression you DISLIKE the letter!!! :)

But I think that the issue of whether the letter is phoney KH or not
is something to be determined by various evidences/reasoning/etc and
should not depend on just one's LIKE or DISLIKE.

Actually, years ago when I first became interested in this KH
Concentration letter as found in ES Instruction #5, I was somewhat
uncomfortable with it. I had reservations about it. At that time
it seemed to me that it contradicted various other teachings of
HPB/the Mahatmas and I [AT THAT TIME] wondered if this KH letter was
a production thru Besant or Judge after HPB's death. This interest
led me to years of research trying to determine when the letter
first surfaced: before HPB died or after....etc. etc. So I don't
think LIKE really applies to me.....even now.

You also write:

"If dan can't tell the difference between this purported teacher
letter and the genuiness of the Prayag Letter, etc., - but keeps
refering to them as other 'phoney letters' because fairy-seeing
Leadbeaterites like Sherman doesn't like them - then gods help the
poor man!"

Oh, I'm touched by your concern for me [the poor man]!!

First of all, I have no doubt that the Prayag Letter is genuine.

And all I have pointed out is that you think the KH Concentration
letter is phoney and other Theosophical students (including Shearman
but he is not the only one) would say the Prayag Letter and Letter
#10 on God are also phoney....

Remember Hugh Shearman is not the only person who holds that view.
And I don't think all of the persons who hold that view are (as you
characterize them) "fairy-seeing Leadbeaterites"....

I have had several discussions with some students who were at least
not obvious Leadbeaterites and they still didn't believe a true
Master would write what is found in the Prayag letter or in Letter
#10.

For my own part, I couldn't quite understand their reasoning on this
so I'm probably not the one to give a good presentation of their
views.

In fact, again, I don't share either their views or Shearman's view
on the Prayag letter and Letter #10 on God.

But when you declare:

"If dan can't tell the difference between this purported teacher
letter and the genuiness of the Prayag Letter, etc.,....then gods
help the poor man!"

you might also reflect on the following:

For example, Charles J. Ryan considered the "Concentration" letter
genuine. I have his handwritten comments.

And I believe Basil Crump did.

And don't forget Julia also believed in the KH Concentration letter!

So remember Jake --- what is obvious to you may not be obvious to
another well-versed and sincere student.

And then you write:

"...I think the 'concentrate on the master as a living man in your
heart' is a phoney method, which especially some women and
homosexuals would find apealing, (this is NOT pointing any fingers
specifically)..."

I won't comment at this point on these choice words of yours but
will simply ask: I guess Julia falls into this category of "some
women"???
