THE GOLDEN RULE

Friends,

Since ancient and pre-Christian times, a ?golden rule? is taught in both Eastern and Western traditions, including Confucianism and Judaism, etc.

Such a golden rule says, not necessarily with these exact words :

?Do for others what you want them to do for you?. (Matthew, 7: 12)

But why should this piece of advice be considered correct? What universal law, if any, does it come from?

It comes from the law of karma. How is it?

The whole Universe can be described as a Hall of Mirrors. Akasha, the universal ?astral light?, reflects everything in it, as if it were a ?gigantic magical mirror?; and Karma Law, the law of justice, harmony and equilibrium, makes sure that each one of us, citizens of the universe, harvest what we have sown, in human relationships as in everything else.

This ?harvesting? takes place at each different level of consciousness or reality where the sowing has occurred, in a process which is independent from the other levels. So that in the case of a wrong action with a good intention, for instance ? or of a good action with a selfish intention ? both actions and motives will find their reward, or punishment, at their own independent (though inter-related) levels of reality.

In such a ?universal hall of mirrors?, each atom reflects its solar system, or galaxy -- and so the other way around.

Hence the Emerald Tablet says, ?that which is below is like that which is above; and that which is above is like that which is below?.

In the New Testament, Matthew says Jesus taught:

?What you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and what you separate on earth will be separated in heaven?. (Mattew 18: 18).

In this universal, unbounded set of mirrors, all images are, of course, ?recreations? and not ?literal?. They reflect both the reality of the ?observer? and of the ?observed?. They show a narrow particular viewpoint and the universal reality at the same time. They combine Maya and Sat, Prakriti and Purusha, Illusion and Reality. At our human level of reflection, only a very thin range, a narrow sample of such images, can actually be perceived.

Speaking for myself, I can tell you that if I appear to be tough or radical in some subjects related to the theosophical movement, I am consciously treating all Theos-talk members and each one of them ? no exceptions whatsoever ? exactly in the way I would like to be treated, that is, in a sincere and truthful way; and saying what I see of things, while expecting equal sincerity in those who think in similar or opposite ways.

I am sure in return people can only give what they have inside themselves, and I am happy about that.
An Adept wrote: ?Lessons can be found everywhere?. A learner not too dumb can learn from everything.

Learning how to learn is the big thing about esoteric philosophy. Wisdom is all around us and nothing is ?excluded? from Buddhi, the higher Light.

I wanted to make this commentary for, as ?heaven is linked to earth? and macrocosm reflects itself on the microcosm, so my vision of the Kosmos-at-large must have a direct relationship with my vision of Earthly Matters, including Theos-talk debates.

(This, of course, relates to Antahkarana, the sacred ?Jacob?s Ladder? within each of us.)

Carlos.
