Friends,

There has always been in the Adyar Society a certain number of sincere students of the teachings given by H.P. Blavatsky and the Masters.

Even today, there are some dedicated H.P.B. students in the United Kingdom and other national sections of the Adyar T.S.

Among these brave souls was Ms. Ianthe H. Hoskins, who served for several years as the General Secretary of the Adyar TS in England (1972-78 and 1989-92). I met her when she taught at Adyar?s Summer School, in India, in 1994. We corresponded for some time, and she was one of the first persons to show me the real importance of HPB for a long-standing theosophist. I owe the same debt of gratitude to Geoffrey Farthing.

A woman with a great sense of humour, Ianthe Hoskins? last book was ?Time, Duration and Immortality?.

There we see the Stoic poem bel.ow. It suggests that the truth-seeker must be prepared to face many obstacles, especially if he has to face an environment like the one in the Leadbeaterian Theosophical Society:

THE SEARCH

By Ianthe H. Hoskins

There is no path for me, no God, no guide;
I fling away from light and leading hand;
I have no sword, no staff, no friend beside:
Alone, unarmed, I seek an unknown land.

With bruised fingers and with bleeding feet,
Alone I tread, while round me and before
Foe upon foe assails me, whom I greet
As friends to lead me to the unknown shore.

Give me no counsel, proffer me no aid,
No star in my impenetrale night;
Alone, alone my journey has to be made
Through the here-darkness to the yonder Light.

So shall the pilgrim known from whence he came,
The spark be one with the eternal flame. (1)

Regards,  Carlos.
