Duane and the Movement

Duane,

Thanks a lot for your valuable testimony, both personal and related to the theosophical movement in Boston.

Just great indeed.

The quote from the naturalist and trancendentalist thinker H.D. Thoreau -- "Where there is no love organizations spring up" -- has a Taoist flavour and it should be most useful to some theosophical groups which have too much bureaucracy and too complex power-structures.

This is another especially significant sentence, from your posting below:

"True Theosophy is equally about Freedom as it is Truth. The Freedom to belief as one wishes and the Freedom to change ones own inner enviornment at will."

The theosophical movement must be a cross-cultural process, a process of vision with multiple viewpoints and frank discussions, as long as truthfulness (sincerity) is present.

When the levels of sincerity decay, it is natural that hypocrisy strongly increases.

You say:

"The Boston lodge known for its free-thinking and independance style finally had its charter removed and a new one issued to those who could tote the party line."

I ask: when did this happen?

You say:

" Down through history excommunication is often the prefered method of certain group who need conformity, uniformity and control over what it sees as its possesions or subjects."

I totally agree with you and do know what you are talking about.

Do share your views with us and feel at home.

Regards, Carlos.

I am humbled by these testimonies and the older I become the more gratitude I have for the hard work, vision and tenacity a number of key Theosophist have exhibited down through the years. And beyond my understanding no doubt down through the ages.

Although I am a Theosophist that has traveled exstensively and worked in many lodges over the years the Boston chapter has a special place in my life.

My first task when working there as President was to clean house of all the lower psyhic clap trap and psuedo-spirituality that are attracted to the Theosophical energy but are unable or unwilling to make the commitment to its larger vision. I understand only to well the need of many Thesophist to get back to the original teachings and re-establish the core values. Some Theoshical lodges can often play a
