mkr,
Hmmm, well the standard fare I saw used in LA was scheduling a lecture for a Book or Topic at the Local New Age Book Store (in this case the Bodhi Tree in west LA). Also there were at times small ads placed in the Penny Saver free rummage sale and for sale hand-out and mailers. Another resource is a NEWS & Review Newspaper that are placed at Book and Record stores and local Colleges and University's. These are in addition to propagation Flyers placed also in these localities. Scheduling a Representative on local Radio Talk Shows or Community Television and local TV Stations for short interviews on "What's New Community News." Sometimes having a Booth at a Psychic Faire with Books, Tapes, Videos, Handout Flyers on stimulating topics provides a ideal potential market traffic of people who are already having interest in Theosophical topics. Another means is volunteers to tacks individual flyers announcing Meetings and Lectures with address, phone, dates and topic on telephone poles
and other places like bus stops. The basic success Formula is "Make Yourself Known." Persistance across the time line is necessary.
Regards,
John

thanks for the your experience with advertising. i have seen publicising
meetings and lectures with free notification in the local news papers have
been of some help. but they do not bring in large number of members. the
exception is the technique Col Olcott used when he launched new branches.
When he planned a trip to a new city, where perhaps there were no one
interested in theosophy, he would put in an ad for a lecture and it was
effective in attracting members. it was a combination of the times and the
topics he lectured and his personality -- all of it combing to be effective.

I still would like to see the results of the gmail ad campaign. may be next
would be to offer breakfast, lunch or dinner at classy restaurants -- like
the one many financial planners use to target retirees into investing in
high commission insurance related products in the USA. Current situation is
that many existing branches are not growing or membership declining and
generally lacking the vigor and vibrance i have seen in branches years ago.
