Well, all I can think of right now is why Krishna
symbolized a possible way to realization in the iron
age by having/playing a flute? He appeared so at the
start of this Kali Yuga.
The Hare Krisha movement is although too much focussed
and warshipping Krishan being a personal God indeed
found music to be a motivator in their Mantrams.
H.P.B. was a brilliant piano player; bells and other
sounds played an important role in her occult
practises.
The AUM sound sais it all, AUM or OM is the only sound
or combination of sounds Which can lead a soul back to
its Origin.
Om Mani Padme Hum is the famous Buddha chant/mantra.
Examples aplenty here but not a hot topic in Theosophy
it seems...
