Really,a religion, because everyone sat around at the feet of Socrates.  Define what you mean by religion.  As far as I know this was a 'by invitation only' philosophy.

Hi Cass,

The difference between organized sectarian religion and Theosophy is 
fundamental. However, Theosophy is defined originally as a synthesis 
of science, philosophy and religion, with each segment interdependent 
with the others, sort of like everything else!
