Re: Theos-World Adyar Estate

Hi Mrs. Preethi.

To get the taste of Adyar, I couldn't agree with you more, people should at least stay one or two months there, but I was never able to do so myself, due to my work. The same also applies to India of course. What a magnificent country, inspite of all its huge problems. During the International Convention in December, Adyar apparently moves into a different gear.

The second part of your message is quite revealing and interesting. Must say that I am not really surprised though. Ever since I came to the compound, my first visit was with my late husband in 1984 if I remember it well, certain stories, mainly about the way the International President would conduct her business and relate to other people, popped up now and again.

The residents I had contact with during this period, would all agree that on the one hand she was a magnificant speaker, writer and thinker, with an exceptional intellect, but that on the other hand she was also very authoritarian and intollerant to anyone opposing her, or disagreeing with her. I heard her speak on a number of occasions, and must admit, I was deeply impressed.

I am curious now. What happened, and what is the current state at Adyar?

Roberta

That is not much of a choice, is it, for most members? Oh, by the way, from some of your own statements i gather you have never been to Adyar. Most "leaders" are here during the busiest time of the year -- the international Conventions, which time is truly spent as you call it "attending meetings, having tea, coffee, socializing". To get the real flavour of Adyar, one needs -- this is just my feeling -- to visit it off season (which of course happens to be the hottest time of the year and climatically quite unbearable) and stay for about 2 months at least. You might then find that there is a major discrepancy between the natural world or SPIRIT of Adyar and most people who inhabit it.

At the moment i am engaged in a war against the corruption of Adyar which is endorsed by the President of the TS and by silent complicity most residents-workers-members at Adyar, and though resident at Adyar at the moment, i am on my way out. And i had been in the former status (member-worker-resident and/or member-resident) since March 1994....and i have seen Adyar, well, there is no other word for it, "degenerate".....more of it later...
