Re: Theos-World Adyar Faces New and Serious Problem

It might be worth while to consider the following words by good old H. P. Blavatsky:

>>>A PUZZLE FROM ADYAR<<<
"There is no longer a "Parent Society"; it is abolished and replaced by an aggregate body of Theosophical Societies, all autonomous, as are the States of America, and all under one Head President, who, together with H. P. Blavatsky, will champion the CAUSE against the whole world. Such is the real state of things.

What then, again, can be the meaning of the following comments by the acting Editor, who follows Mr. Keightley's letter with these profoundly wise remarks:

It is to be hoped that after this very distinct and authoritative disclaimer no further "private circulars" will be issued by any members of the Esoteric Section, calling upon the Fellows to oppose the action of the General Council, because "Madame Blavatsky does not approve of it"; and also that silly editorials, declaring that Theosophy is degenerating into obedience to the dictates of Madame Blavatsky, like that in a recent issue of the Religio-Philosophical Journal, will cease to appear. We have better things to worry about than some damned beach. I still
think we would all be better off if Adyar were plowed under. It has long
  outlived its usefulness.

  Dear Friends,

I just learnt about a new and serious problem Adyar is confronting. Here
  are
  the fulll details.

  +++

The Tamil Nadu State Government is planning to build a 47 km elevated
express way which will include parts of the Chennai coastline. The first
studies show that around 14 fishing communities (*kuppams*) and over 560
families will be affected by the project. The proposed route includes the
Adyar beach near the Theosophical Society's compound. The entire unique
ecosystem in that area will be severely disturbed.

The Adyar beach is one of the last undisturbed beaches in Chennai. Many
residents from Chennai go there every day, through the TS compound, to
  enjoy
the beach and the vastness of sea and sky. The beach is also a landmark in
contemporary India as it was the place where renowned philosopher J.
Krishnamurti was discovered a hundred years ago.

T_he Save Chennai Beaches movement has organized a petition addressed to
the Environment Minister of the Central Governement in New Delhi, asking
  for
the project to be abandoned. The link to the petition webpage is given

As we are all interested in Adyar, I would like to ask you all to consider
signing the petition and support this important initiative to save the
  Adyar
  beach from unwanted development.
