Gauri Viswanathan - Outside the fold: conversion, modernity, and belief

Dear friends

My views are:

I just came across the following Scholary book.
It contains a number of strong views about Annie Besant and is connecting the Besant period of the Theosophical Society with Socialism and the Constitution of India etc. etc.

"Outside the fold: conversion, modernity, and belief
Af Gauri Viswanathan"
http://books.google.com (I can be searched here)
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~lhc/events/2006/viswanathan.html

She quotes Annie Besant saying:
"It is sometimes pretended that Theosophy has nothing to do with politics, I have entered on a new line. The fact is conveniently ignored that, while labouring chiefly in religious propaganda and educational work, I used the light of Theosophy to illuminate political questions where great principles were involved."
