Your mention of the originals out of copyright and only the introductory
material is under copyright brings into focus a very important point. The
situation with SD Commentaries also falls into the same category. All that
had been done in both publications is to transcribe and add some
introduction and comments and were published by theosophical publishers.
Neither book is cheap and latter is really pricey out of reach of average
theosophist around the world.

It would be very easy to convert them into pdf (actually someone had already
converted the latter and was on the Internet for some time for free
download) and make them available to every interested theosophist around the
world. Once on the Internet, it can be downloaded instantaneously.

My hope is the authors (who have been long time theosophists) see the
immediate need to expand the circulation world-wide and help TS membership
grow. Once you are closely involved on the organizational side, you get
complimentary free copies from the authors and hence one does not see how
critical the pricing is and how it impedes distribution. Of course the
authors derive some royalty income from each copy sold.

Today many of us carry a computer with us all the time. All one needs is to
visit your local Starbucks Coffee shop and it is impossible to find a
customer sitting there without a computer. Once you have a computer, you
want to load a pdf file on the hard drive so that you can read the material
anywhere any time without lugging heavy volumes. In addition, distribution
is a piece of cake. You also save trees.

As they say, look and learn. All one needs is to look and see what is going
on in the world of computers, Internet and digitization.

Let us all hope that next time when the leaders and authors meditate, I hope
they catch what is going on around them at this time. My hope is to find
every publication as a pdf for free on the Internet. It is all the more so
with theosophical material and if we are working for the welfare of the
Humanity, let us provide information and knowledge for the souls who are
seeking them. We all get our Karmic rewards for sure, because it is such a
productive endeavor.
