Daniel,
Thanks so much for your kind reply and explanation which explains the correct view. The second Index volume I have is also by TPH is the 1921 reprint of the 1895 Edition Index for S.D. Vol. 1, 2 , and 3.

regards,
John

John,

If confusion there be, it is because of different editions
and different paginations!!

Vol I and Vol II of the original SD was published in 1888 (latter part of the year).

Vol. III of SD was published in 1897.

Then in the 1930s the Adyar TPH decided to come out with a
new edition of the SD. This new edition had 6 volumes:

Vol. I of 1888 was split into Volumes 1 and 2 of the Adyar Ed.

Vol. II of 1888 was split into Volumes 3 and 4 of this new ed.

Vol. III of 1897 became Volume 5 of the new Adyar ed.

Volume 6 of the new Adyar ed. was the index volume.

There are 2 editions of Wachtmeister's book. The First edition of
1893 and the 2nd one published in 1976. The 2 editions have
different paging.

Is this as clear as mud? :)

I had two different prints of the "Volume III" and the curious thing is the table of contents don't match at all Lmao! The older of the tow is by TPH 1921 Edition and has a contents table that has the mentioned history of Occultists in the first part and then beginning on page 434 a part titled "Some Papers Bearing on The Bearing of Occult Philosophy On Life". The beginning part of the same volume had 51 parts in the first section.
