Re: theos-talk Use of Internet by Theosophical leaders

I am glad to see the response.

The feedback on the 4 volumes of Krotona is welcome. Availability of
theosophical books in pdf format which can be read in any computer and
transmitted world-wide with ease is an issue no one who is in key publishing
decision making chain seem to understand. The audience for theosophical
books is quite small. Many in the developing countries cannot afford to
purchase them of the high cost. By not making pdf files available, we are
missing a great opportunity to make material easily accessible to readers
world-wide.

The role of Internet in organizational issues and opinions was clearly
demonstrated in the 2008 election and the aftermath. But for Internet,
members world wide would have been in the dark and would have believed what
some self-serving leaders had told them. Even today, most of the Internet
forums are closed and controlled by the Sections. This is a very dangerous
environment and free transparent Internet is a built-in protection for all
spiritual organizations including TS.

Most leaders used to operate in environment in which they have total control
still do not know how to deal with open and free Internet environment which
no one is able to control. Internet is so integrated with daily life of the
developed world that it is not going away and we, theosophists need to find
innovative ways to use is to interact with others interested in theosophical
topics and is a very powerful cost effective tool of communication. At a
time of continuous decline of membership except in India, we have to try
every tool available to help stem the downward decline.
