Annie Besant Birth Anniversary

Oct 01, 2011 12:47 PM
by MKR

Annie Besant was born on October 1, 1847 and Oct 1 is celebrated through out
India commemorating her work in India in political, social and theosophical
areas. Her work especially in organizing the educational centers all over
the county and the establishment of Benares Hindu University were great
achievements benefitting many in India. Today, Benares Hindu University is a
premier educational institution. She was also the first foreign born
national to be elected the President of Indian National Congress. Her
activities in public causes helped theosophical movement as well and I think
her prime focus on the First Object of TS - Brotherhood not on the nuances
of the unseen world.

If Indiaâs economy is booming and standard of living improved for the low
end of the population, much of it can be ascribed to the educational system
in India whose foundation was nurtured by her efforts.
