Tantrik Rituals in HIndu Temples in India

In the temples of India, traditionally Brahmins function as priests.
However, in the southern state of Kerala, in many temples, Brahmins are not
allowed to function as priests. The role of priests is reserved for the
Namboodiri community. It is a fairly close knit community in which the
greatest Hindu Reformer Shri Shankaracharya was born. It is reported that
the reason for only Namboodiris act as priest is due to the complex tantrik
rituals they perform in temples. This is the first time I came across the
mention of tantrik rituals in association with Hindu Temples.

While Shri Shankaracharya reformed Hinduism and set in motion many
traditions, He, as one of the greatest occultists, should have been
familiar with tantrik rituals and their role in the spiritual realm.

Has anyone come across any discussion on Shri Shankaracharya and tantrik
matters?
