A few views...

I do not...not initially.

An example to consider is the book "Mahatma I + II" by Brian Grattan, who would like people to think that he is Simon Peter - disciple of Jesus. And he writes about Blavatsky, Alice. Bailey, Theosophy, Vywamus (the channeler), Janet McClure (channeler) etc., etc, Ascended Master doctrines --- and who promises a lot of things - and predicts that we will have MORE nuclear activity on this planet (!!!) and other wierd ideas.
Of course Bruce is not Brian Grattan, but on the other hand...too much narrow-minded thinking will never help the planet.
Sorry if I sound a bit blunt, in my formulations. But I do mean well.

The NDE of the author might however be genuine enough - but as I see it on a lower level.

I would ask the author:
Why not give the book away for free - so to help his favorite Jesus spread the measse of the "good" Gospel?

And when he accept re-incarnation - he will have to accept the doctrine of Karma - And if he only foreward this doctrine superficially he will - to a certain extend - be doing his followers a dis-service. The Law of Karma has to be understood deeply else the world-view will not hold its waters - and - work might be wasted.

Christianity is almost the only religion on the planet which promotes a Monotheistic outlook on life, with a personal God, who are able to be angry and throw people into an eternal hell. (And is Therefore no doubt a Fobia inducing Cult based on mere belief and Priesztly Dogmas, which one may not oppose).
And not a Non-Dualistic one.

I would suggest that the author considered the Science of Subtle Mind Control (See Steve Hassan: Combatting Cult Mind Control", and "William Sargant: Battle for the Mind", or Margareth Singer "Cults in our Midst") as being important - before he gathers too many followers around himself - seeking to keep them into a Sectarian narrow-minded mind-set (no matter how unwillingly). Science is more important the mere belief --- or perhaps even mere fanaticism.

On the early Christian and the Ebionites and Pythagoreans - I would try the followiing words by Blavatsky and seek to confirm or reject her views through related scientific references on the same.

I do respect NDE, because I am myself one of its many "victims" (positively meant)

I do hope that this might be useful...

  "Doubting Thomas" Never Doubted Because

  He Never Existed!!!

  Wikipedia tells us:

  ------------------------------------------------------

Saint Thomas the Apostle, also called Doubting Thomas, or Didymus, was one of

the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is perhaps best known for disbelieving Jesus'

Resurrection when first told of it, then proclaiming "My Lord and my God" on

seeing Jesus....He was perhaps the only Apostle who went outside the Roman

Empire to preach the Gospel. He also crossed the largest area, which includes

Persia, India and China....Andrea del Verrocchio's sculpture showing the

incredulity of St. Thomas. In Thomas' best known appearance in the New

Testament, John 20:24-29, he doubts the resurrection of Jesus and demands to

touch Jesus' wounds before being convinced. Caravaggio's painting, The

Incredulity of Saint Thomas (illustration above), depicts this scene. This story

is the origin of the term Doubting Thomas. After seeing Jesus alive (the Bible

never states whether Thomas actually touched Christ's wounds), Thomas professed

his faith in Jesus, exclaiming "My Lord and my God!"; on this account he is also

  called Thomas the Believer.

  -------------------------------------------------------

  See this beautiful painting at:

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Caravaggio_-_The_Incredulity_of_Saint_Thomas.j\

  pg

Based on what C.W. Leadbeater wrote about the Apostles, this scene in the New

Testament never happened because Thomas never existed.....

  Daniel
