Adept holding the position of Maha Chohan has changed?

In the address by Annie Besant in 1932, she refers to the Maha Chohan
letter of 1880 as "the then Mahachohan". This implies that the Adept who
holds the office of has changed during the time from 1880 to 1932. Has
anyone seen any other comment by anyone else on this issue?
