Dear Malcom:

I do not have any notes of a direct answer to your query about the karma
which brings two egos into incarnation as twins.

But if you consider that the main factors of karma are always generated by
self-choce, would it not be reasonable to suggest that such a very close
junction is either a case of great sympathy or (rarely, I hope) of great
antipathy.

In another E-Mail message I read to day from my friend S. Freyr is a
statement that our "skandhas" (life-atoms) that we use and which help to
form our personalities (including physical, and astral bodies, prana-life
principle, and kama-desires and passions) are "our possessions" and we use
them over an over in the process of reincarnation.

I would widen this concept to observe that we are constantly receiving and
emiting the "life-atoms" -- as we think, feel, work, eat, drink, breathe,
etc... So in one way of consideration the range and the depth of
"life-atoms" which we use or can draw on is tremendous, as we find that
they come in and some stay a while, while others leave almost immediately.
Theosophy does state that while pasing through or in residence for a while,
they are impressed (as they are electro-magnetic in nature) with all our
choices, good or bad.

I am trying to say that we (as immortal egos) are a "center of attraction"
and that the vast "matter" of the Universe will at some time come under our
environment. What are WE ? think of us as eternal Pilgrims, as
Mind-beings with the eternal power to think and feel and act. We can reach
out to any subject or being in the Universe according to the quality of our
attention, mind, will, and feeling -- all these to be cultivated with care
and attention.

Theosopy does offer some definite ideas on thsi. You will find them
towards the closing pages of the short pamphlet (32 pages) EPITOME OF
THEOSOPHY. I have in mind pages 20 - 30.

So usially it is the close affinities of two egos that could draw them
back to be born together. Also, it may be unresolved business that they
had undertaken and need now to finalize. Many factors are theoretical, and
it would be difficutl for an outsider, unless he is an Adept to give
specifics.

You will find that in Theosophical literature there is a wide spread of
very interesting psychological statements, which can assist where modern
psyuchology is still scrabbling for understanding. If interested let me
know and I will give what I know of as reference for you to consult.

I think that the first thing we need to secure interior conviction on is
the idea that we are in fact immortals. There are some very useful
references in THE SECRET DOCTRINE that explain this. Do you have a copy ?

Consider as a start that the power of our thought is virtually unlimited.
Our horizon is as wide as we choose to make it, and it ranges from our
invisible interior and immediate CENTER to the furtherest reaches and
boundaries of the Universe. A friend once said, facetiously: "Then I am
the center of Space." He was true in this idea as we are each such
"Centers." We all share in each other far more than we realize. The gret
community of nature includes the brotherhood of mankind. We are it. and
so are the "twins" of this incarnation.
